I remember reading that often, skulls were added to classical art to fill the space. I have to say, I can see why they specifically were picked: skulls throughout history have been a symbol of the most explored certainty in life, and have been displayed, subverted, and used as scares for generations.
Most importantly, though, skulls are just plain fun to draw!
On another note, I've been replaying a game called Castle Crashers that recently released the Painter Boss Paradise DLC. I have made an admittedly pretty rough playable Brudil Brinn!
...I should probably note this isn't sponsored; I just love the game and felt like it'd be a good fit for my gnome girl.
